The old Homestead

poem by: Jackie St james
Written on Mar 24, 2016

A house surrounded by trees .
Robins raising their young
in the branches of a old pine tree.
3 Gumball trees out front
represent the kids all three .
Deer eating apples in the early morning light .
The fireplace where it all began .
Where we said { I Do }, with our hands held tight
Sounds of Guitar serenades still echo in the hall.
A deck and coffee for two .
Chatting and laughing about what's new.
The places we would go,
The things we would do.
Never knowing the days would be so few .
A safe harbor, a home of my own .
That's what he wanted.
He would always love and take care of me
No fancy ribbons and bows adorn
these gifts your Father gave to me .
They will live forever in my memory
