Church: The Awakening is the first book in a series written by me, Kenyata White, and edited by Crystal Allen. It is a novel based on a true story.
Cults are a very real thing. I know this because I lived most of my life in a religious cult. My unsolicited “Church†membership began when I was very young and continued until I escaped, somewhere around my 30th birthday. I was brainwashed to believe that in order to get to heaven I MUST believe and do what I was told. Otherwise, I would surely suffer the wrath of God.
After many years of living a life consumed with physical and mental abuse, I “woke up†out of the mind controlled slumber. Some memories still haunt me, but now I know that God is LOVE. I am able to live a very happy, abundant life and BE who I AM.
The story is told through the eyes of the main character, Keondra. She has done the will of God since she was very young. She witnessed exorcisms and beatings performed in the name of the Lord, which are a normal occurrence in her life. Her mother is the leader of the church, and Keondra is expected to follow in her mother’s footsteps. But first she must walk the dark path to have everlasting life.
