SPINNEY WOODS...

poem by: Frank Hornby .
Written on Feb 18, 2021

"A short walk up Moorgate Road, brought us to Kirkby industrial Estate,
we'd arrive at Spinney woods, a place we all thought was great.
Hiding amongst the ferns...and climbing all kinds of trees,
we'd have fun there for hours..and get home late for our teas.
"Where have yer been?...my worried mum would say,
I've just been out mum...I've been to Spinney woods to play...
"How many times have I told yer?...not to go to that bloody place!..
now get in that bathroom..and wash the muck off yer face!
...Ok mum I won't go there again...nag, nag, nag, she's becoming a pain!
It was usually on Sundays...that me, and me mates would disappear,
it was a change from playin' footy...just different from around here.
So..fond memories of Spinney woods, I've still got to this day..
..a place that I escaped to..where us kids loved to play."

Cheers Frank.... Thing is I saw Paul Macca being interviewed on Utube and he was saying that Strawberry fields was about his childhood memories......his Spinney Wood I guess. Thanks for asking to be my friend on Pondrin.......of course ..... we are already.

Oh hold up.....Macca said it was about "childhood memories" not necessarily his. John wrote the lyrics .....sorry.
