THE GO ALONG

poem by: Frank Hornby .
Written on Nov 12, 2020

"Paul!..Billy!..Mike!.....Frank!..Listen, I'm not bloody tellin' yeh no more!
..I'll give you such a Go along!..your feet won't touch the floor!"
"I'm tellin' yeh!..you lot will put me in an early grave!"
"Stop all your bloody fightin'..and just try to behave!"
Those words from my mum, when she was in a rare rage,
take me back fondly...way back to another age.
One of her "go alongs" was a clout across the back of my head,
it was for something I deserved, for something I'd done or said.
But it always made me laugh, mum never made me scared,
because deep down inside....us lads knew that our mum really cared.
Yeah, whoever got the "go along" knew it was readily deserved,
and those words are in my memory.....forever to be preserved."

Hahaha...I received a few 'go alongs' as a lad...(I wish she was still here to give me one more)....this day and age mums are not allowed too...(done me no harm, taught me respect)...👍🏻
