This House is Not a Home

poem by: Dakota Haggerty

This house is not my home
My life resides elsewhere

This house is not my home
there is nothing here for me

If this house was my home
I wouldn't want to leave

This bedroom has my bed
but it is not where my head drifts to sleep

This living room is full of people
who I cannot say I love

If this house was my home
I could relax

This house has windows
windows I look through, waiting

This house has a kitchen
with food I do not eat

If this house was a home
I wouldn't love leaving

If this house my home
I would hate it all the same

A home isn't where you hang your hat, It's where you hang your heart. But sometimes, there's no one home.
