Annul

I saw the lies floating on the sea breeze,
as I stood with arms wide in a field—
stifled and complacent I watched those
lies drift further along the path
of the Valley, knowing every step
I could stop them, following them—but
hoping that you would become real,

Big Brother’s watching—every moment,
every second, every minute, every hour—
[am I doing something wrong?]—[am I doing
something you don’t like?]—follow your
every instruction and the lies drifting
past my eyes will continue to be real—
happiness before my very eyes at last.

Standing on the seashore, Julia—
silent as millstone, Julia—
magnet of broken men, Julia,
lay down next to Egypt on the ocean floor—
“send a couple rats,” said Julia—
honestly, I’d probably done the same—
who do you think needs you more?

Awash in the subtleties of the sea,
smelling the fragrance of sex and
adultery, you slit my wrists for me,
left me for the police to beat—
[holy to the Lord on the bells of horses!]—
safely on the shore we sank like stones
to the bottom of a made up potion!
