Where have all the birds gone

Where have all the birds gone?
I can no longer hear their song.
Their chirp and their chatter that echoes my rooms,
Seems to have left nothing but gloom.
Where have all the birds gone?

Where once was a song, a trill, and a squeak,
Now lies a silence that deafens my sleep.
I disguise it with music, a hum, or a beat,
But nothing can ever replace the sound of that sweet sweet tweet.
Where have all the birds gone?

As days go by, and nights draw long,
Oh, how I crave for that endless song.
The melody, the chorus, the perpetual throng.
How has this happened, all this pain?
Where have all the birds gone?

I try, and I try, to be bold and be strong,
But they’re gone without warning;
Not even a feather to hold.
But it’s the sound that is killing me,
It’s crushing my soul.
Someone please tell me, where have all the birds gone?

Alas, from time to time they return to grace these halls,
With their twitter, their mischief, and their heavenly calls.
They are happy and carefree and safe here in my warmth,
I need not despair,
The birds have not gone at all.

As they grow and they flourish; their tone, it changes,
From sweet innocent warbles to more wisely ranges.
They know where their home is, with regular returns to the roost,
It’s these little moments that make me hoot.
I know they adore me, and I love them too.

So back to their mother’s nest, they return for a while,
I know they’ll be back soon and return with my smile.
But until then I’ll cover the booming silence with the music and the beats,
Until I hear their graceful, and heart-warming, beautiful cheeps.

So if you can’t hear your birds and their magnificent song,
Don’t despair, or anguish, or even fear for long.
They are always here, in your heart, your memories and your home.
So please never doubt or question to
Where all the birds have gone!
