light personified

it was september
i didn’t think much of you then
having not known you
but whether I wanted to or not,
i started falling for you
falling for your long, brown hair cascaded with gold
falling for your brown eyes that felt like coming home
falling for your voice that a thousand sirens couldn’t parallel
falling for your ability to love endlessly without hesitation
falling for the way you hold others when you yourself need to be held
falling for the way you dance underneath a sky full of stars
not giving a damn who’s watching
falling for the way you crinkle your nose when you’re embarrassed
falling for the way you exude so much confidence
falling for the way you are unapologetically you
falling for you, you, you, and only you
it was september
i didn’t think much of you then
having not known you
but if I had, i wouldn’t have taken you for granted
because you were a light in my darkness
and i didn’t realize you were dying until it was too late
