A man woke up

A man woke up. He looked down at his feet. Covered with dirt. Need to put his clothes away today. Energy is hard to come by. He leaned up against his pillows. Thoughts wander. He watched the fan blades turn and sway, like a washing machine must look like to its clothes. He needed a smoke. A rooster crowed. He got out of his bed and walked outside to his usual spot. He lifted the lighter to the cigarette. The branches of a tree were bending against the wind. They were making an inaudible whisper. He lit the cigarette. A rooster crowed. He sulked back into the house. Another shower, another day. Another day another toothbrushing. Another toothbrushing then more food. Did he really need to eat every day? Something stopped. He looked at the clock. Slightly before 3:45. Handlebar mustache. The phone rang. It was his father. His father asked for him to come to work today. Sure. He got into his car and started driving. He pulled out another cigarette. Policeman. He lit the cigarette. He got to work. He saw his dad. Handlebar mustache. He worked. Who knew how long. Long enough, right? He went home. Looked at the clean pile of clothes on his floor. Laid on bed. Watched the fan spin.
