Am I vain

Do you think me vain When you see my name? The name which I have chosen in part A name which stays close to my heart. Saint Thomas Aquinas, patron of students, He is who I venerate. Yet I have not the patience of Saints Nor knowledge divine. I used to seek to know many different things Am I worthy of bearing his holy name? O how that thought stings! Yet still I honour him I try to seek knowledge in every kind. Mathematician, poet, philosopher These are the gifts God gave me But am I worthy of bearing someone else's name Or does that make me incredibly vain?

.....if aquinas is on your birth certificate......then why is vanity an issue?....

Just the other day I felt almost as though I had failed my namesake patron, because at one point I felt like giving up with my studies.
Personally I don't think myself vain but I have been called as such before for trying to honour the name bestowed upon me.

well, to be fair, everyone needs a bit of narcissism in there head otherwise we would never strive to better ourselves. It is funny you mention this because, during my studies, I became obsessed with finding the root of humanities issues and narrowed it down to neglect, the kind that turns children into narcissists and psychopaths. they become crazed and power hungry without regards for fellow humans. I then found out 5 months later that I was living in a memorial to St Augustine, And he supposedly made it a mission to prevent neglect. spent the rest of his life trying. how strange is that? At the end of the day, none of us are saints and all are sinners to some degree. Just try and live up to your own expectations mate. and you will come out of this a wiser and happier human ;)

Wow. I know there's been a lot of people who've claimed to have been spoken to by the Saints but yours seems like it was miraculously guided.
Indeed we are all sinners, but that's no reason not to strive for sainthood.
