"So What?"

poem by: Joe Cooper

"Babies born, some sick, others deformed.
Whose baby, yours maybe, stop lying.
Bawling, crawling, one step, take two.
Now walking, soon running, why are they
Gunning? Mommy working, daddy gone little
humans home alone. Got a cracker and some
jelly, quiet and rumbling in my belly.
Much neglect and abuse, where's the match
to light this fuse? Much yelling, no ones
telling, who lives in this dwelling? Go
to school, cute dress, will it rescue me
from this mess? Teenager, know-it-all,
no one to catch him when he falls.
Reading, writing, arithmetic, how many
did I miss? Fall in love, no! Infatuation,
strife, anger, separation. Too many babies,
visiting strangers, get a gun, to hell with
mangers. Bang! Bang! Double dead, who
stands in their stead? Now what? Where's
Mommy? So what?"
