Job Search Depression

poem by: Snow Nakajima
Written on Nov 18, 2016

My hands, sore from typing and writing
Job applications and a mountain of it
Taking countless hours and time
Tick tock, tick tock
I’m working away like Cinderella
Stress, anxiety, excitement
 All at the same time
“Will this finally happen for me?”
Eggs in one basket kind of situation
“Oh no, what did I get myself into?”
Countless times I do this to myself
Rinse and Repeat
Rinse and Repeat
Rinse and Repeat

Job interview time
Choking the life out of me
I’m hanging off the cliff
My body is getting weak
Arms are giving in
Easy to just let go
Hard to keep at it
Questioning my decision
“Is this what I really want?”
“Am I too far fetch?”

The black hole
Deeper and wider
Swallowing me alive
I try to resist but it’s taking over
I kick and punch the air
Worthless effort
My sorrow eating me alive
I look to God
Only one that can save me
I cry and ask for help
“God, I’m tired!”
I let go
Let go of everything
I’m covering my head
The storm is taking over
I see no more light
Just darkness and black
All black
Credits finish
End of movie
Black screen
The End

Been there, done that, got the (second-hand) T Shirt. Not sure if direct from your own experiences, or if it's sympathy for others, but well done, you've captured the hopelessness very well. Well done.

Theatrical :)

Great choice of sentence structure: short and succinct. This builds up the tension by quickening the reading pace.

You described very well a situation that I, and many others, can so easily relate to, sadly. Very visual feast in your words.

You need to let go and let God lead you to the perfect job which is perfect for you! Your poem inspires others facing similar circumstances! I really loved your poem. My job seeking years have ended. I never found the perfect job. I am on SSI and enjoy poetry and creative writing.
