Search for love and peace

poem by: Thomas Paine

As I awakened, I began to see
My passion to find pure love did travel from sea to sea

It was religion which seemed to be
Man and womens answer for the dreadful plight of you and me

With every ounce of effort I proclaimed it so
Only to find it was religion that didn't know

Oh well it is "the relationship" you are missing my son
They would say "it is because he is the one"

At last I found peace my heart did say
But my mind answered are you sure it’s the way

Why does such misery visit the innocent I would question
Religion would say "because he is teaching us a lesson"

Diligently I began to ponder
This time using fact, science and history as I wondered

Oh the thrill of joy my mind now declares and knows
The universe as it is had made it so

Now the very power of the universe is a foundation for my feet
Realizing it was religion that had put me to sleep
