The Drugs Don't Work

poem by: Valerie Brady
Written on Oct 05, 2013

It's that time again,
I knock a familiar door
And am greeted by a familiar face
I know he's not a friend
But I give him the last of my budget

He returns minutes later
Hands me my addiction
Slams the door in my face
Leaving my pockets empty
But my mind full

The week ends
No money or reason for living
Just memories of the good times
The times when reality dissolves

I await this feeling of deja- vu
