The Edelweiss

The Edelweiss

As majestic are the Edelweiss
That bear even the cold
The pristine in the harsh
Valiant and bold

Stand they not withered
By snow ice and wind
But grow they are patient
From Winter they will send

Fitting they portray
Strength will and heart
For strength they are needed
To play the soldier’s part

Jared Alesi commented:
To truly understand the above prose, one must have a history lesson. The German army, or Der Wehrmacht, used the Edelweiss flowers, which each soldier must pick himself, as a sign of strength, as they only grow in the Swiss Alps.
Cecilia Crasto commented:
Lovely poem,Edelweiss was featured as a song in the Sound of Music.
Jared Alesi commented:
Seems fitting enough, though I don't recall it.
