It's the Thought that Counts

I set myself the task
of writing a cheerful poem
Something about puppies and smiles
Something about sunrise
in a beautiful woman's eyes
About candy and rainbows
and undying affections
with heartfelt inflections
Or a Shakespearean soliloquy 
of contemplations on love

But then it was lunchtime

Well, at least I tried
