A Childs Lament
A child’s lament
Daddy had to go away to war
In land I didn’t know before
To help the people there he said
But my heart was filled with dread
His voice cheered me on the phone
Every week when he called home
Telling me of that hot place
In my mind I pictured his face
I look at his photo beside my bed
Memories running through my head
How he showed me all the love
Only the love a dad can give
He left us on that sunny day
Keep him safe I used to pray
But my prayers we all in vain
I never saw my dad again
