for pumpkin:

poem by: Brianna Miller
Written on Apr 27, 2023

ripped from my hands as
i gently pet your favorite spot,
your frail legs twitching, head
nuzzled into my hair, unable to keep it held yourself

heavy breathing, i
wrap you in your blanket, like a diaper and to
try to keep you warm, it’s just a
cold, i wrap myself up too.
bundled in my shaking arms and
i whisper how much i adore you, love you
so much that my heart aches.

nocturnally mine, i turn off the light and lay
side by side with my beloved, both struggling to breathe.
i turned off the life and fell
asleep.

i’m sorry and i hope you know
i mean it when i say i didn’t mean to.
i hope the flower makes
up
for it.

forever mine and forever yours,
pumpkin.
