The Mask

poem by: Frank Hornby .
Written on Feb 12, 2022

"The smile of the clown...don't be fooled by the lie...
inside he's suppressing...the urges to cry...
The paint is a mask...he constantly wears...
...to cover his feelings...that nobody cares..
hearing the laughter...as he performs on the stage...
camouflages his pain...eases his rage...
Acting the fool he finds easy to do...
fooling the people...like me, and you...
Why is he unhappy?...nobody ever cares to ask...
...that's why he will forever....keep wearing the mask."
