DNA

It's DNA that fascinates me !
Not why it's there but its manifestation:
a family of redheads get on the bus
from grandma to baby all are one.
My mole on my neck
in the same place as
the one on my grandma's neck.
My father told me
at his dead uncle's will reading
an unkown son appeared -
an unkown cousin for my father to meet .
Well, Dad said this stranger held his cigarette
just like Uncle had done
and sat and spoke like him
though he'd never known him -
why is that?
So don't tell me there is no plan
that evolution just happened
or dogs can't smell disease.
We are not in charge
of our genes
or of this planet......
So please - let's try
to limit the damage
our species has done
so polar bears
have enough ice to survive
and the DNA
which makes their cubs
can remain on earth
for another generation!

Genetics is our way of living forever.....through our children....I also believe that snippets of memory are carried through generations....(I'm sure I've been here before).....maybe a distant close relative was there, and passed on the memory?....I love your poems Ann...
