Boatman

Certain thoughts, have pervaded every part of my soul,
Intellect and emotions create two different mindsets,
I know I’m an average person, but other thoughts do in my mind stole,
Shadows of friends pierce my heart, and remind me of my debts,
These amazing people, being able to stand me, impossible,
Afraid that they’re lying, in myself, I confide,
And the river of life stretches so far wide, I think it’s uncrossable,
So I prepare to jump, knowing that only into darkness shall I slide.

WAIT,
A boatman calls out, and offers passage,
I wish not to be a burden, but he insists and with my inner motives, he clashes,
I accept, not expecting this treatment,
I still keep to myself, hoping not to cause his happiness to dement,
His look and kind words sever my strong facade,
And at last I let go of my grandiose mirage.

“Boatman, I feel like, I don’t make a difference,
Would people notice if I left without a single utterance?”
“You have truly made an impact, and are going places.”
“But there is so much uncertain, and I fear I may find more solace in a box of filled cases,
NO, that was me, but your open ear has released the tension from my chest,
I hope to see you again, for you have helped me escape this nightmare rest.”
“You are the master of your fate, and I’m always here man.”

And so we wave goodbye, but not forever I know,
Because a spirit like this, does in each heart show,
But this one in particular, it does shine the best,
The wise boatman has helped my thoughts coalesce,
And I made it across one river, and have the strength to face the rest.
