In death, I feel so alive

The scream, it came from a distance,
sharp and shrill, filled with pain,
then silence...eerie, dark silence,
until it happened again.
There are trees all around me,
I cannot see the way to go,
the need to call out is tremendous,
I am lost as the murky night grows.
Each step on dry forest debris,
creates a deafening sound in the gloom,
but slowly, I try to sneak onward,
praying the sun will come up soon.
Something is approaching behind me,
I can't breath, I fill with dread,
then sharp pain as ragged fangs find me,
weak and drained, he leaves me for dead.
I gasp for air as I lay dying,
heart slows and there's such immense pain,
clawing my chest, my eyes are now streaming,
I think I am going insane.
Then the agony slowly subsides,
this can't be happening to me,
heart stops, my eyes pierce the blackness,
my soul is now suddenly free.
Crouched on my knees, my whole world deepens,
to life, all my senses have sprang,
in death, I feel so alive,
I creep on as I tongue growing fangs.
