A good man

poem by: Ellen Early

To have a "good man"
What does that mean?
Does it exist?
Will it happen to Me?

Why all the lies, deceit and
Deception?
To hurt the ones
Conceived at conception

Creating an image
The world will so gaze
But behind closed doors
A lunatics rage

A smile to outsiders
His genuine concern
He fools his audience
With the hatred that burns

No, a good man
Looks at his lot
Gives better to them
For which he had not

A "good" man
Will stand on his word
And never repeat
A lie that he heard

A good man
Won't take away
But be the warm winds blowing
Through your sails everyday

Pushing you forward
With all he's got
To encourage the young ones
In your lot

My prayer is this
And I hope it to be
That someway, someday
This man finds me
