Having a Mental Illness

Back in the quote on quote
Olden days
If you had a mental illness
You were locked up
You were crazy
They tried to electrocute the madness out of you
Sometimes they tried shoving an ice pick
Into your head
Making a hole for the demon
Who supposedly lived in your head
To get out

But luckily it's 2018
And we don't lable people
Because that's not right

But in the back of our minds we lable everyone
And everything.
Today
when you have a mental illness
You are still defined as crazy
You are still locked up
And hid from the world
Although we might not zap you with lightning
We still give you a shock
When we tell you you are not normal
You are forced to live a terrible life
And the only thing we can do about it
Is shove pills down your throat
And see what each one does
And if they don't work
someone who knows everything about you
But actually knows nothing that goes inside your head
Convinces your doctor's that you are
Most definitely
A danger to yourself
Or others
Because of petty reasons that don't actually make sense, but if you try to explain that you are completely safe, and you are not going to hurt yourself or others
It doesn't matter
Because they believe the person who knows you but doesn't
More than you
Because most likely they are sane
Most likely they do not have a mental illness
So they can be trusted
Due to the fact that they are not crazy

And lately I think I question my sanity
More then any of the other people, who already have that label of crazy pinned toy forehead
Because when you have more people calling you crazy
Locking you up
Then not
Why wouldn't you start to question it?
The odds are not in your favor
And you are in the fucking hunger games
But the thing is
Everyone else is allowed to have basic survival needs except you
Unlike everyone else
Who just have to survive against other people
YOU have to survive against others
Along with yourself
You have to figure out how to survive when your body demands
Not fair?

Well nor is life

When you have a mental illness
It doesntatter when
Where
Who
How
Or what

But you will be considered crazy
And it only becomes true
When you tell yourself it is
