That January Day
You loved me, this I know
but then you had to go
and things were never quite the same again
On that January day
I kind of lost my way
and those thoughts and feelings just elude my pen
I was but eleven
when you went off to heaven
it was quite a jarring lesson at that age
And now 40 years have passed
since the day I saw you last
when I learned the hard way I must turn the page
You know, I miss you dad
and I would be so glad
if only I could see you once again
When I finally come your way
I’ve a world of things to say
All those feelings once elusive to my pen
