crowded lonliness

poem by: Scribe Granted
Written on Jan 13, 2017

Voices and bodies are everywhere you go
Phone beeps flash notifications
Chit-chat falls flat, it all seems a show
Smiles and high fives, mostly false elation

Surrounded by people who care little, leaves feeling separation
Like a fallen rain drop, somehow floating atop a salty sea
Looking for real understanding, left in desperation
Almost thinking you'd feel less alone if you were to flee

Should masks be donned and new identities created
Living on false pretenses as a temporary oath
Eventually the mask loosens, you begin to feel deflated
Perhaps there is a way to understand others with growth

So adapt or change your environment, but let yourself be known
Sometimes amongst others you feel most alone

I love this poem because it portrays how two-sided people can be and how fake love is loneliness itself
