Ski Jumper

poem by: Paul Goetzinger
Written on Dec 26, 2016

Perched high in a tower
Olympic glory waits
Flags of many nations
Swirling in all directions
Sea of humanity gathered
At the base of the mountain
Breathtaking view of mountain meadows
Nordic tradition
Immersed within thrilling spectacles
Ski’s firmly fastened
On feet
Awaiting launch skyward
Deep breath
White mist exits lips
Push off
Hurling downward
Legs in deep crouch
Arms cocked back
Speeding towards take-off
Steep ramp ends, legs lift
Spectacular dive towards ski tips
Spread into a V
Riding on a cushion of wind
Descending for a perfect landing
Carving intricate murals
In the snow
Crowd roars
Arms lifted over head
Olympic legend is born
