Stormy Night

Rain is coming down hard, as it pelts us against our aching skin,
The glare from the street is blinding, like the sun reflecting off tin.
The wind is howling and swirling, like nothing i've ever heard before,
Mother nature has been provoked, and she's looking to settle a score.
Trees are bending, and branches are breaking, better go seek some cover,
But tonight there is no escape, it seems far too late, how the clouds do hover.
A car is overturned, as the sirens ring out, and the darkness is too much to bare,
Lessons are learned, about what really matters, an entire town will learn how to share.
Within minutes the chaos has ceased, and all decibels have been replaced by an eerie calm,
As I gaze upon the targeted site, all has been destroyed, it looks like the result of a massive bomb.
Tears fill the eyes of all who have survived, as they search tirelessly for those whom they adore and love,
Why does it take us to hit rock bottom, to come together, the moment when push does come to shove?.

Quite deep in emotions. It is definitely hopeful because often times lessons aren't really learn.

Thank you both. Agreed; how many times at a funeral do people come up to you and say "we have to make time and get together".....then, days/weeks/months/years go by, and you never hear from them again. Sad that people are unwilling to add family and friends to their priority list..

you've hit the nail on the head, we have a large and lovely family, yet only seem to meet up at weddings and funerals. In this brilliant poem of yours you've reminded us to make touching base a priority Thank you.
