To Wake in Light

poem by: Joshua JayShades Legister
Written on Dec 10, 2025

I pull the curtain aside
and the sun greets me like an old friend,
warm lips of light pressing soft against my face.
I squint toward the horizon;
white walls, palms standing loyal in the breeze,
and beyond them a body of water shimmering
like a polished coin offered by the sky.

The wind moves gently respectful, almost prayerful
ruffling palm leaves but never dimming the heat.
It lingers, rich and golden,
as though the day itself leans close to whisper:
You are alive. Be present. Breathe this in

This poem "To Wake in Light" is a wonderful inspirational poem filled with rich natural imagery and blessed with an over abundance of your very own personal experiences. Since you wrote about palm trees I believe you are living in a more tropical climate. And you reside by a body of water "shimmering like a polished coin offered by the sky." Your wind is gentle as opposed to being colder and harsher. Yes your climate is very warm and very toasty. Each day is a gift to us from God and we are to thank Jesus Christ for yet another day of being alive! Well written and well done!
