AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY

poem by: Kenvil Atkins
Written on Jan 05, 2024

Bang bang gunpowder poisons the air
The loud noise of gunfire everywhere
Many people just don’t care
A prayer for the dying no one there
Murderer lack of consent beware
Another shooting in the square
People dropping here and there

Asking myself yes as I ran for cover
Why is this happening here in Clover
An American tragedy when it's over
Gunmen and victims people of Jehovah
Fifteen Dead in the street of Manitoba
Twenty wounded some say game over

History will record this bloody mess
Putting each one of us to the test
On the news, you will hear the rest
How did someone start that big mess
Placing a community under duress
Wondering what will happen next
