Winter Into Light

Sometimes the light switches didn't work, so dark,
just the glimmer from the fire showed a bright spark;
huddled in one room together away from adverse weather,
we progressed thro' all of the smog with good endeavour.
Now other things don't work so well, like aching joints,
we then decide who might be best, like scoring points;
my family are gone but I'm still here holding the fort,
I use or ignore all of the things that I've been taught.
When summer came, the white light went on forever,
I flew thro' my open window to the land of never never;
arrived in Cape Town where cloud draped over mountain,
life enwrapped you like an eternal golden fountain.
Now the switch worked, I'm back where it all began,
I can surely say that knowing you made me a better man.
