Any Pill You Have

Can you take away the pain I feel inside?

Replace it with an artificial paradise?

'Cause on and on and on it goes

Yeah. I'll take any pill you have, just to make it pass.

Anything that you have. Make the feeling last.

Any pill that you have. Just to make it pass. Again.

(I wrote this song during a season of depression a few years ago. The lyrics speak of circumventing life's difficulties by escaping into a self-induced euphoria. However the metaphor of the "pill" can refer to any maladaptive coping mechanism that one uses to distract one's self from the pain and confusion that comes with depression. This song by no means endorses the use of drugs--pharmaceutical, recreational, or otherwise. In any case, the final word, "again," indicates that such escapes from reality only produce ephemeral euphoric states; one needs to indulge again and again to maintain the altered state.)
