The Kite Flyer

poem by: Cecilia Crasto
Written on Jul 19, 2016

It's bright and early and he's on the beach
A lesson in kite flying he begins to teach
Come he calls to those passing by
And watch me fly my kite so high

He raises his hands he dances around
His feet are barely touching the ground
His fingers are nimble his arms are strong
The kite is pretty and the string is long

The wind picks up he releases the kite
The crowd is ecstatic and clap with delight
He navigates with skill he controls the height
Is this the Messiah they whisper in fright

He looks with pride at his kite flying high
Darting and diving like a bird in the sky
He invites the crowd to come fly a kite
He has them in colors of red blue and white

The man grows weary so the show must stop
He brings the kite down with a gentle drop
He waves to the crowd and it's time to go
I'll be back tomorrow he says bowing low.
