A Tender Moment

You clumber on down the stairs and tighten your robe belt as you walk into the kitchen doorway spilling with light. You pause as you see your husband sitting at the table, bills array on the table, a telltale sigh and a weary face plopped in hand. Oh boy. This is trouble. Folding your arms you walk up behind him unawares. A smile plays at your lips as you bend down and wrap your arms around his neck kissing his cheek and snuggling him. He laughs lightly as he leans back and lays his hand over yours.
“What’s all this?”
You turn to face him and smile into his eyes.
“Nothing much. I just love you so much that’s all.”
The two of you share a laugh as you come around and sit in his lap holding him close as he wraps his arms around your waist.
	“What’cha doin’ babe?”
He sighs again as he leans his head on your shoulder.
“Nothing dear. Just looking at the bills.”
Your fingers play through his hair as a moment of quiet descends in the room. He’s so stressed. You can tell by the tension in his shoulders. You smile as an idea enters your head.
	“Hey.”
You both pull back and look at each other as you continue to comb his hair.
	“You busy tomorrow?”
	“No, why?”
“Why don’t we take a day to ourselves?”
He laughs as he snuggles you closer.
“Can we really do that babe?”
“Of course we can! I mean it’s not like we’re chained to this place. We’ll go out and have fun! We’ll go to the city and maybe catch a movie and a lunch. We could even go to the local flea markets and shop at our favorite used books stores.”
He chuckles at you as you start getting excited at your own idea. But you can tell he’s gonna make up some excuse ‘cause his eyes soon sober.
“Babe….” You brush a strand of hair from his eyes, “Just because we have no money doesn’t mean we shouldn’t live. Who knows, maybe one of your compositions will sell or even one of my pieces. But you know what no what happens, whether we’re swimming in money or bills, I’ll be so happy because I have you. And the bills just mean we’re actually living you know, I’d rather live and have fun, than barely survive hiding out.”
A smile slowly sweeps across his face as you speak then he softly laughs at you and pulls you down softly whispering.
“You know, half the time you don’t even make sense.”
You cup his face in your hands pulling him close for a kiss as you whisper back.
“No, I don’t have to. As long as I only make sense to you.”
You both share a laugh as a shimmering kiss envelops you both. Sure what you’ve said was true. Whether you’re both shimming in money or bills, there will only be happiness. Because you have each other and all the love in the world.
