Bella!

poem by: Ann Parks

Bella! Bella!
heard me shouting
down the phoneline yesterday.
"her ears are up she's looking for you"
Paul my friend delighted says.

Bella Bella
clever doggy
markings like a badger's face
a stick too long
you valiantly carry
and work out how
to get indoors!

Bella Bella
charms old ladies
they give you crackling :
"take it home!"
you eat the cat food
on their back steps
still they love you
crafty dog!

Bella Bella
sensing each soul
my friends so poor
often don't eat
but they never
ever starve you
they just put
their dreams on hold.

Bella Bella
naughty doggy
you came
you sniffed
you caught their vibe
you growl
you play
you lick their faces
you give them love
worth more than gold!
