The top

poem by: Freesa Khan
Written on Oct 16, 2014

An open pit, very deep;
a place for pain to go to sleep.
Eyes and ears shut real tight;
Avoid all guilt so you stay right.

Push and pull, scratch and claw;
survival is the only law.
Make it to the very top;
where happiness will not stop.

Build your castle way up high;
floating in the open sky.
One slight slip you begin to fall;
you hit the ground and lose it all.

I like your poem. It aptly explains the post-industrial way of life, which is kind of depressing! Still, great imagery and great rhyming!
Christopher Russon commented:
Very good rhyming.

I guess we all reach for the top of the ladder of life if we can with our hopes and dreams but when and if we fall, we fall hard. Enjoyed reading this. Take care. Janet
