Lake Isle of Dreams

Lake Isle of Dreams

There’s something magical about an island on a lake
A transient mooring, free to float adrift in space and time
To these small worlds we’re drawn to seek respite from deep heart-ache
Where peace rings soft and clear as from a distant belfry chime

I will embark on one such isle, cast off and drift down stream
Past field and village town and city, estuary and coast
On placid sea an unplanned course, the voyage of a dream
Where time no more confines me, as an autocratic host

Yet would this timeless interval of blissful freedom pall
And other wants within our souls resurface bringing yearning
For challenges, the drama, games, the richness of it all
The respite: chance to breath, before reality’s returning

So let us have our islands, free from all demands and strife
Then having caught our breath, make land to face this world and life
