My Choice...

poem by: Frank Hornby .
Written on Apr 11, 2017

"While we are here, on this beautiful blue earth,
please value your life, for all that it's worth.
Don't ever take for granted, any second of each day,
just live your life happily, in your own unique way.
But be aware that an illness, can strike anytime out of the blue,
that's the cruel reality of life, for us all, that fact is true.
Sadly, when hope has all gone, it's only you that will know,
so the choice should be yours, when it's your time to go.
If the quality of life, is no longer there, if excruciating pain is too much to bear,
I will say it again, and will always believe so,
that the choice should be mine, when it's my time to go."

I have read all of your poem and find that we share the same thoughts and feelings. I like that you create your poetry from your life experience. I have tried to do the same, but you have a deeper feel to your poems. I really enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing them.

I really don't know where I stand on the topic of euthanasia, it is still illegal in Australia, but when a person refuses all medical assistance, or the family decide to turn off the life support isn't this a form of assisted dying? A deep poem Frank and very well written.

Thanks Cecilia....When I used to watch my mum crying constantly in terrible pain suffering with her incurable Cancer......if she would've asked me (her choice)...I would've given her the dose for the peace that she deserved....love your comments Cecilia, thanks again....
