Manon

poem by: Suzie Lemons

My biggest fear is that I become you.
I feel your presence amongst my shadow.
You’re right behind me.
I taste poison in my mouth.
You’re an addict.
Fear is creeping in.
I cannot sleep.
You no longer belong with us, but with the pack of wolves that linger about when the full moon is out.
I am your prisoner, for better, and for worse.

Your howls have stained hope,
you are not my guardian angel.

They say our bodies are made up of 80% water, yet you have forgotten what water is.
Your favourite is red, remember?

I miss you, but I hate you too.
Stay away, but only minimal distance.
Walk with life, not with a bottle. I beg you.
