Belief

I don't believe in organized religion,
It appeals to most of the masses.
I do believe in a spiritual world,
And an afterlife after one passes.

I don't believe in original sin,
It appeals to most people I know.
I do believe in redemption,
By one making self changes which show.

I don't believe in physical resurrection,
And it makes no difference to me.
I do believe in transcending life,
And from carnal issues becoming free.

I don't believe in the Trinity,
A silly myth constructed in man's mind.
I do believe in a higher life force,
From nature's beauty we can find.

I don't believe in Hell,
A lie to control the masses by fear.
I do believe in karmic balance,
And our actions that return their share.

I don't believe in men of God,
We are all equal according to my eyes.
I do believe in freewill and choices,
And consequences not based on wild lies.

I don't believe in crazy miracles,
Orchestrated by preachers on a stage.
I do believe in miracles of nature,
From childbirth to living to an old age.

nice poem. i agree with your words.
Geoffrey Brewer commented:
I generally don't believe in believing, In most cases belief is associated with an idea or assumption proposed by someone else, or less often by one's self, which one the decides to go along with on 'faith'. I know what I know from honest observation. A belief is alright as a working rule which may be discarded if or when it doesn't work. For example, Newtonian physics is a workable set of beliefs, that are not workable whe you get into the fields of the very small or the very large, but they will do very well in everyday life, engineering etc. As usual you make a good point, Michael

I totally agree with your "beliefs" and words of wisdom and impressed with your relative rhyme construction... For mine there are two statements that I relate to on your subject of belief... 1. "Believing in your own hallucinations is called lunacy, believing in somebody else's is called religion"... 2. "Blind Faith is believing in the unbelievable".

Thanks Rod

Beautifully put, I so identify with your thoughts here. I prefer to call myself a spiritual person, from a very young age I felt it was always a put down, and a way of control.

we are what we believe. but don't look too hard either. somethings can only be seen with eyes closed.
