Nights In The Garden

poem by: Cecilia Crasto
Written on Aug 01, 2016

When sleep eludes me I stumble from bed
Escape to the garden to clear my head
Surround myself with night time wonder
Still my heart and cast worries asunder.

To gaze upon a star spangled sky
In their twinkling light to see God's eye
Looking down at me in my restlessness
His creations abound and all becomes bliss.

A balmy night perfumed roses in bloom
Why stay cloistered in a darkened room
To bask in this glory and await sunrise
As colors blend and tint the skies.

The sound of birds herald a new dawn
Thrilling my heart with their raucous song
Industrious bees flit from flower to flower
Gathering pollen new growth to empower.

Stars slowly dim and soon fade away
Imperial sun will now rule the day
Dew covered grass in morning light
I need no sleep amidst such delight.

The land around us grows smaller and smaller
Replaced by buildings much bigger and taller
To be close to nature is a wondrous thing
It lifts the spirit and makes the heart sing.
